Looking for an easy Labor Day activity for 2nd grade? This simple reading comprehension activity is a fun way to teach students what Labor Day is, why we celebrate it, and how workers contribute to our communities.
This year, my 2nd graders used a Labor Day reading comprehension passage to learn about the holiday and four important vocabulary words: labor, worker, honor, and community.

We read the passage together as a class and discussed each vocabulary word. Then students completed a “When I Grow Up” career activity by drawing and writing about what they would like to be someday.
The next morning, we shared our responses during morning meeting. It was such an easy way to connect reading comprehension, vocabulary, careers, and classroom community while learning about Labor Day.
