Hey! I’m Carrie.
I’m a 2nd grade teacher and the creator of Hometown Happy Teacher. As a veteran teacher, I’ve spent most of my career right where I love to be, in 2nd grade.
Over the years, I’ve also taught 3rd grade & 4th grade and worked as a reading interventionist and instructional coach, but 2nd grade has always felt like home.
I started Hometown Happy Teacher as a place to share the things that actually work in my classroom. The simple routines, teaching ideas, activities, and resources that make my days a little easier and help my students learn.
I especially love teaching reading and writing, finding ways to make learning feel manageable for young students, and creating resources that are useful without adding more work to a teacher’s plate.
Everything I share here comes from the perspective of someone who is still in the classroom, trying things with real kids, adjusting when something doesn’t work, and keeping the things that do.
When I’m not at school or attending a sporting event, I love spending quiet evenings at home with my family.
