Punctuation Practice with Macaroni

Who would have thought punctuation practice could be so much fun with a little macaroni and glue?

I love using simple hands-on activities whenever I can, and the kids usually love them too.

For this activity, students use elbow macaroni to show where the punctuation belongs in each sentence. The noodles work perfectly for commas and quotation marks, and we also use them to practice apostrophes, contractions, and possessives.

Hands-On Punctuation Practice

Instead of another regular worksheet, students get to use macaroni and glue while they practice:

• Commas

• Apostrophes

• Contractions

• Possessives

It is such a simple activity, but it makes punctuation practice a little more fun.

All you really need is elbow macaroni, glue, and the activity pages. I keep extra noodles stored in my classroom so they are easy to grab whenever we need a little extra grammar practice.

This works well for whole group practice, small groups, centers, or review.
