A Simple Labor Day Activity for 2nd Grade

Looking for an easy way to teach your students about Labor Day?

This year, my 2nd graders used a simple Labor Day Read & Respond activity to learn what Labor Day is, why we celebrate it, and some important vocabulary words including labor, worker, honor, and community.

We read the passage together as a class and discussed each vocabulary word. Then students completed a “When I Grow Up” activity by drawing and writing what they would like to be someday.

The next morning, we shared our responses during morning meeting. It was such a simple way to connect reading, vocabulary, careers, and classroom community.

I created this activity as a free resource for teachers who want an easy, print-and-go Labor Day lesson for 2nd grade.

The freebie includes:

  • Labor Day informational passage

  • Vocabulary page

  • “When I Grow Up” response activity

You can grab the Labor Day Read & Respond Freebie in my Teachers Pay Teachers store.
